A. - "PDF" is an acronym and stands for "Portable Document Format". It is a way to store information in a file so that programs like Adobe Acrobat Reader can view, edit, or print it, similar to how DOC files are a way to store information so that Microsoft Word can view, edit, or print them. Adobe Systems, Inc. originally came up with this file format and it has fast become the standard file format in the computer industry because of it's ability to retain formatting, fonts, and layout regardless of what platform it is being viewed on. Using the "Text Into PDF" library, you can quickly and easily create a single PDF document for your own personal needs, or create a massive enterprise level application that dynamically generates PDF output on the fly. The PDF documents that the "Text Into PDF" library creates can be viewed on any platform using standard PDF viewing software like Adobe's Acrobat Reader (which is FREE). A. - YES. Due to the complexity of PDF documents, most PDF creation software packages cost $80, $100, $500, or (in some cases) several thousands of dollars. However, the "Text Into PDF" library is only $39.95, which puts the power of PDF well within the reach of any personal user, developer, or software manufacturer. A. - NO. The "Text Into PDF" library is completely royalty free after you pay the initial licensing fee for it. There are no further royalties, fees, or payments to be made. Remember that you do not own the software after paying the licensing fee for it, but you are licensed to use it as much as you like in whatever manner you like. The ONLY stipulation for its use is that you can NOT use it to create any programming component, library, or application that will, or can be construed as competing with the "Text Into PDF" library. In other words, you can’t use my component to compete with me (pretty standard stipulation). A. - The licensing for the "Text Into PDF" library is done "per seat". This means you need 1 license per developer, per computer. If you have 1 developer who uses this software on 5 computers, you'll need to purchase 5 licenses (one for each computer it is installed on). If you have 1 computer which is used by 3 developers, you'll need to purchase 3 licenses (one for each developer). If you have 1 developer who created a library that is installed on 10 servers, you'll only need to purchase 1 license (the license is for development, not deployment... so you are not restricted as to how many servers you install it on or how many processors your servers have). The "Text Into PDF" library is a small, light-weight, fast, and easy-to-use programming tool that only has one dependency - the Visual Basic run-time (which is now distributed standard with the Microsoft Windows operating systems). A. - YES! You can use the DLL files compiled under VB5 or VB6 within any COM aware development environment, including: Visual C++, Delphi, REALbasic, etc. And because the DLL files compiled under VB5 and VB6 are "ASP friendly", you can use the "Text Into PDF" library within your web applications as well. Of course the "Text Into PDF" library will work great within VB4 (32-bit), VB5, VB6, and Visual Studio .NET too. A. - YES! With your purchase of the "Text Into PDF" library, you get a FREE application called "PDF Pad". "PDF Pad" is a word processor very similar to Microsoft Notepad which gives you the ability to save to PDF format as well as TEXT format. A. - NO. The "Text Into PDF" library is not designed to be the "be all and end all" of PDF programming components. It is designed to give you the ability to easily and quickly create PDF files from any string or text file and give you a lot of options and functionality while doing so. The "Text Into PDF" library does a very good job at what it is designed to do. However, there will be a "Text Into PDF Plus" library that will allow you to create full featured PDF files with text blocks (of varying font and color), objects (of varying color and shape), pictures, lines, and more. This library (once completed) will be sold separately. If you purchase it in conjunction with the "Text Into PDF" library, its price will be discounted. Also, those that purchase the "Text Into PDF" library first, then purchase the "Text Into PDF Plus" library when it comes out will receive the same price discount.
